Just the other day I got a new computer at the office and I needed to backup my Skype messages from the old computer and put them on the new computer. I was not worried about the contacts list because those are maintained on the Skype servers. I thought I would share with you how to go about doing that.
On the Mac, at least on my iMac running OS X Leopard, the messages are in the following location:
Users\<user name>\Home\Library\Application Support\Skype
On Windows, the messages can be in one of two places (Windows XP or Windows Vista and up).
XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Skype
or
Vista/Windows 7:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Skype
On both OS versions you do the following:
1. Copy the entire “Skype” folder contents to offline storage (ie. memory stick, cd, etc.).
2. Then you copy back the contents of the “Skype” folder you saved to the new system at the same location.
That is all there is to it.
Hi, I am not really sure how to go about doing this. I actually have some that I would like to get restored too.
I wish to restore people Ie blocked on Sykpe how do I go about it please
Thanks for sharing the extra information. I have used EZ Backup before. It is a pretty cool product.
Thanks, great info. for windws 7. Just make sure you restore the data to C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Skype before you sign into your skype account and make sure to install the same version of skype that was on the old computer.
I also found if you have EZ Backup Ultimate you can Back up everything with on your skype account including Conversations and restore them easy if you have to move to a new computer.
Very useful! thanks for sharing
